happy 100th post

Ashley, a great friend of mine, has a wonderful blog called "blurbs." She's a fellow adventurer/gypsy/ wanderer and she posted something that really caught my attention. I decided to write something in response to her question!

Question of the Day: How have you seen God this year? What does that look like for you?

I wrote this about a year and a half ago.

It takes heartbreak to realize where your passions lie. This week has been one of the most hardest, gruelling weeks I have ever experienced. God had to break my heart, so I could experience what he experiences day by day. Heartbreak for the people he created, each beautiful in his eyes.

I went walking today, and I saw God. I saw God in the old man carrying mail out of a hotel. His back hunched back, slowly pushing the cart, doing what he has probably done for years. I saw God in a construction worker, hidden in the alley way, fixing something that no one realized was broken. I saw God in the playground, where children were playing, oblivious to the world around them. I saw God in the sky, the brightest blue sky I have seen in a while. I saw God in a couple walking their dog, a puppy that couldn't stand still - hopping on the large amounts of snow, nuzzling up to a strange girl sitting on a bench.

I saw God calming my heart, as I realized that the world wasn't ending. That everything really ties up together, and is all been done for a higher purpose. My friend, Bethany Lemmons told me that the way she encounters God is through meeting new people - I didn't talk to anyone today, I only saw strangers faces, but I was able to see God's imprint on them. I saw how desperately he longed to draw those people closer to him. I understood God's heart, for a milimeter of a second. My pain is not the only one in the world... everyone struggles with the same things that I do. A sense of longing, and to find purpose in our short lives. What God is trying to tell me is that I need to find my purpose in him, and look for him everyday.
It's such a simple thing, but one so easily forgotten in the mundane schedule of my day. I don't know about you, but it's so easy to want to turn to someone instead of to God. I have found so many times that people let you down, and that you can't count on them forever. This week I realized how hard that was, but I know I will still have to keep learning.
I saw God today in you, my friend - tell me, what do you know about him that I don't? :)

I think that I still feel this way, even a year later.. I experience God the most by the people that come into my life. I'm in constant growth, because I'm challenged by the people I love the most. Sometimes, it's by reading a different book, or having a conversation but mostly it's by what goes unsaid in different situations.
I know that some of the people who follow my blog might not feel the same way as I do, but I wanted to share, since it is something I've been thinking about these couple of weeks.
Thanks Ashley! I hope this answers your question :)

  1. ah - loved your answer my dear friend. thank you for the reminder that we ought to look for him everyday. God is there - all we need to do is open our eyes ;)
